N60225 is one of the Cessna 162 Skycatchers on the You Fly LA line at Van Nuys Airport, and it flies at $179 per hour wet, the package rate. It is a two-seat, high-wing light sport airplane with a 100-horsepower Continental O-200-D and a Garmin G300 glass panel, flown mostly on sport pilot and private pilot lessons.
This page is the record for that single airframe: what it is, what it costs, what it is used for, what you need in your logbook to fly it as pilot in command, and how to get on its schedule. The whole fleet with every rate side by side is on the airplanes you will fly, and the type reference — V-speeds, handbook sections, why Cessna stopped building the Skycatcher — is on the Cessna 162 Skycatcher type page.

Everything in that table is the specification we publish for the type. Empty weight, useful load and the installed equipment list belong to the individual airframe, they are recorded in the weight and balance section of that aircraft's own Pilot's Operating Handbook, and the handbook lives with the airplane. Ask for it at the desk before you plan a load rather than working from a number you found for a different Skycatcher.
What It Costs To Fly N60225
| Item | Rate | When It Applies |
|---|---|---|
| N60225, package rate | $179 per hour, wet | Hours flown inside a fixed-price course |
| Flight instructor | $110 per hour | Any dual flight, aircraft or simulator |
| Ground instruction | $110 per hour | Briefings and ground school outside a package |
| Redbird MCX full-motion simulator | $120 per hour | Procedures and instrument work on the ground |
The aircraft rate is wet, so fuel is included and nothing is added to the bill afterwards. It is the package rate, what the hour costs when it is flown inside one of our fixed-price courses, such as Sport Pilot at $8,400 or Private Pilot Standard at $10,400. Every rate we charge sits together on flight school rates at Van Nuys.
What N60225 Is Flown For
Two seats, a hundred horsepower and the lowest hourly rate in our fleet. That is the entire argument for learning in a Skycatcher, and it is why N60225 spends most of its week on sport pilot and private pilot lessons rather than on cross-country charter work. The airplane is light, the fuel burn is small, and the hourly rate is the lowest in our fleet alongside the Warriors.
It is also the airplane behind our Sport Pilot course. A sport pilot certificate is the shortest legal route to acting as pilot in command, and it is flown here in the Skycatcher because the Skycatcher is a special light sport aircraft. The privileges and the limits are written in 14 CFR 61.315: one passenger, day visual conditions with at least three statute miles of visibility, no flying for compensation or hire, and a ceiling of 10,000 feet MSL or 2,000 feet above the ground, whichever is higher.
The Sport Pilot Route In N60225
Van Nuys is a Class D field sitting beneath the Burbank Class C, just north of the Los Angeles Class B, which matters for a sport pilot more than it does for anyone else. Under 61.315 a sport pilot may not operate in Class B, C or D airspace until an authorized instructor has given the training and the logbook endorsement described in 14 CFR 61.325. Since our home field is Class D, that endorsement is not an optional extra here, and it is built into the course rather than sold separately.
The practical shape of sport pilot training in N60225 is 25 hours of flight time in the airplane, 3 hours in the full-motion simulator, 25 hours of dual and 10 hours of ground instruction, at a fixed $8,400 including books and materials. Pilots who later want night flying, more passengers or a four-seat airplane convert the work into a private pilot certificate rather than starting again, because the hours flown in this airframe count either way. The comparison between the two certificates is set out on the sport pilot license page.
Checking Out In N60225
Acting as pilot in command of this airplane is a separate step from learning to fly it. You need a pilot certificate with the appropriate privileges, a current FAA medical certificate or, for a sport pilot, a valid driver's license used under the conditions of 14 CFR 61.23, a flight review completed since the beginning of the 24th calendar month before the month you fly under 14 CFR 61.56, and currency for what you intend to do. Carrying a passenger needs three takeoffs and three landings in the preceding 90 days in the same category, class and type, per 14 CFR 61.57(a), and doing it at night needs those three to a full stop between one hour after sunset and one hour before sunrise under 61.57(b).
On top of the regulation there is a checkout in the type: ground on the aircraft's systems and limitations, a flight with one of our instructors, and a sign-off in the file; call or text (818) 330-1318 to talk through checkouts and currency. What a checkout usually involves, including insurance and minimum-hours questions, is on aircraft checkout requirements for renters. If you are comparing operations before you commit, aircraft rental at Van Nuys sets out checkout and currency expectations at this airport.
How To Book N60225
Call the desk on (818) 330-1318 and ask for N60225 by registration. We schedule by airframe, so a request for a specific tail number is normal and we will tell you honestly whether it is free at the time you want or whether another of our Skycatchers is the better answer that day. Maintenance takes airplanes off the line without warning, so the schedule rather than this page is the live answer to availability.
If you have never flown a small airplane, the sensible first booking is a discovery flight at $229 for 60 minutes with you in the left seat and an instructor beside you, credited in full toward training if you enroll within 24 hours.
Where The Registration Details Come From
We publish the specification we operate to and nothing else. For the registration record itself — make and model as registered, registrant, certificate issue and expiry dates, airworthiness class — the source of record is the FAA, and it is public. Look up this airframe directly in the FAA aircraft registry entry for N60225, or search any N-number at registry.faa.gov. If the registry and this page ever disagree, the registry is right and we would like to know.

N60225 FAQ
What Kind Of Airplane Is N60225?
A Cessna 162 Skycatcher: a two-seat, high-wing light sport airplane with a 100-horsepower Continental O-200-D engine, a Garmin G300 glass panel and a cruise of about 118 knots. It is one of the Skycatchers we operate from Van Nuys Airport.
How Much Does It Cost To Fly N60225?
$179 per hour wet at the package rate, the hourly rate for this airplane inside our fixed-price courses. An instructor is $110 per hour on top when you are flying dual.
Can A Sport Pilot Fly N60225?
Yes. The Skycatcher is a light sport aircraft, so a sport pilot may fly it under the privileges and limits of 14 CFR 61.315. Because Van Nuys is Class D airspace, a sport pilot also needs the airspace training and logbook endorsement described in 14 CFR 61.325 to operate here.
Can I Request This Specific Tail Number?
Yes. We schedule by airframe, so call (818) 330-1318 and ask for N60225 by registration. If it is booked or in maintenance we will offer another of our Skycatchers, which fly to the same specification and the same rate.
What Does Acting As Pilot In Command Require?
A pilot certificate with the right privileges, a current medical certificate or the driver's license route available to sport pilots under 14 CFR 61.23, a flight review inside the 24-calendar-month window of 14 CFR 61.56, currency under 14 CFR 61.57 for what you plan to do, and a checkout with one of our instructors in this type.
Is N60225 Suitable For A Private Pilot Certificate?
Yes. A private pilot certificate can be earned entirely in a two-seat airplane, and the Skycatcher is the cheapest way to fly the 40-hour minimum in 14 CFR 61.109. The limits are practical rather than legal: two seats, and a payload that usually means flying with partial fuel.
Where Can I Check The Registration Details?
At the FAA aircraft registry, which is the public source of record. Search the N-number at registry.faa.gov for the make and model as registered, the registrant and the certificate dates. We publish operating specification and rates here, not registry data.
