Full Specs & Guide

The Full N422SN Record

N422SN is the Cirrus SR22 Turbo at You Fly LA, the fastest airplane on our ramp, and it flies at $579 per hour wet at the package rate, the $179 standard rate plus the $400 Cirrus upgrade. It is a four-seat composite single with a 310-horsepower turbocharged engine, Cirrus Perspective glass, the CAPS airframe parachute, a cruise of about 215 knots and a certificated ceiling of FL250.

This page is the aircraft record: rates, what it is flown for, what flying it requires and how to book it. The rest of the fleet with rates alongside is on the airplanes you will fly, and the type reference with generations, systems and performance is the Cirrus SR22 page.

Those are the figures we operate to for the type. Empty weight, useful load, the avionics configuration in detail and every supplement for equipment installed under a supplemental type certificate belong to this individual airframe, and they are in the handbook carried aboard it. On a turbocharged airplane the limitations section deserves a second reading, because the numbers that matter change with altitude.

What It Costs To Fly N422SN

Hourly Rates And Fixed Prices For N422SN In 2026
Item Rate When It Applies
N422SN, package rate $579 per hour, wet Hours flown inside a fixed-price course
Upgrade inside a package $400 per hour Choosing the Cirrus instead of a $179 airplane
High-performance endorsement $1,799, fixed 14 CFR 61.31(f) training and sign-off
Flight instructor $110 per hour Any dual flight, aircraft or simulator

The aircraft rate is wet: $579 per hour at the package rate. The honest way to read the cost is the upgrade line — $400 more per hour than a Warrior or a Skycatcher. Every rate we charge is on flight school rates at Van Nuys.

What N422SN Is Flown For

The high-performance endorsement, instrument work for pilots who want to fly a capable airplane in the system, private pilot hours added to any package at +$400 per hour, and the Luxury Cirrus SR22 Discovery Flight. It is the airplane people come to Van Nuys specifically to fly, and the only one on our line where the avionics take longer to learn than the airframe.

The High-Performance Endorsement And Flying A Turbo

Under 14 CFR 61.31(f), a high-performance airplane is one with an engine of more than 200 horsepower, and no person may act as pilot in command of one unless they have received and logged ground and flight training from an authorized instructor in a high-performance airplane, or a representative simulator or training device, been found proficient in its operation and systems, and received a one-time logbook endorsement. At 310 horsepower the SR22 Turbo is comfortably inside that definition. As with the complex endorsement, the rule sets no minimum hours, which is why we price the training at a fixed $1,799 instead of running a meter.

Turbocharging is the part that surprises pilots moving up. A normally aspirated engine loses power with altitude and tells you so; a turbocharged one holds manifold pressure into the flight levels, which means the airplane will happily climb to where the pilot needs oxygen and the weather is a different problem. Power management, cooling, and knowing when the turbocharger is working hardest are the substance of the ground portion, alongside the Perspective avionics and the CAPS decision-making that Cirrus training is built around.

CAPS is a whole-airframe parachute, and the training around it is less about pulling the handle than about knowing in advance the situations in which you would. That thinking is covered on the CAPS parachute page, the endorsement rules on complex and high-performance endorsements, and the transition course on Cirrus training in Los Angeles.

Checking Out To Fly N422SN

You need the 14 CFR 61.31(f) high-performance endorsement before you may act as pilot in command of this airplane. Beyond that, a pilot certificate with the appropriate privileges, a current FAA medical certificate or BasicMed qualification, and a flight review completed since the beginning of the 24th calendar month before the month of the flight, under 14 CFR 61.56. Carrying passengers requires three takeoffs and three landings within the preceding 90 days in the same category, class and type under 14 CFR 61.57(a), to a full stop at night.

A checkout in this type is the longest we run for a single-engine airplane, and insurance requirements are stricter than on the rest of the fleet. Expect substantial ground time on Perspective, on turbo operation and on CAPS scenarios before the flying. Call or text (818) 330-1318 to talk through checkouts and currency; the general requirement is on aircraft checkout requirements for renters.

How To Book N422SN

Call (818) 330-1318 and ask for N422SN by registration. There is one Cirrus, and it is shared between endorsement training, private pilot training and discovery flights, so weekend and golden-hour slots go first. Give the desk as much notice as you can, particularly for a block of endorsement training.

If you want to fly it once without any of the paperwork, the Luxury Cirrus SR22 Discovery Flight is $499 for 60 minutes, $649 for 90 and $799 for two hours for one flyer, or $599 / $849 / $1,049 with a passenger, with limits of 200 pounds per person and 400 pounds combined. You fly from the left seat with an instructor, and a passenger can ride along.

Where The Registration Details Come From

This page publishes our operating specification and our rates. The registration record — registered make and model, registrant, airworthiness class, certificate issue and expiry — belongs to the FAA and is public. Check the FAA aircraft registry entry for N422SN, or search any N-number at registry.faa.gov. Where the registry and this page disagree, the registry is the authority.

N422SN FAQ

What Kind Of Airplane Is N422SN?

A Cirrus SR22 Turbo: a four-seat composite single with a 310-horsepower turbocharged engine, Cirrus Perspective glass avionics, the CAPS whole-airframe parachute, a cruise of about 215 knots and a certificated ceiling of FL250.

How Much Does N422SN Cost Per Hour?

$579 per hour wet at the package rate, the $179 standard rate plus the $400 Cirrus upgrade. An instructor is $110 per hour on top.

Do I Need An Endorsement To Fly It?

Yes. 14 CFR 61.31(f) defines a high-performance airplane as one with an engine of more than 200 horsepower and requires ground and flight training, a finding of proficiency and a one-time logbook endorsement before you may act as pilot in command. We charge a fixed $1,799 for it.

What Is CAPS?

The Cirrus Airframe Parachute System, a rocket-deployed parachute that lowers the whole airplane. The training around it is mostly about deciding in advance which situations would lead you to use it, rather than about the mechanics of the handle.

Can I Take A Discovery Flight In The Cirrus?

Yes. The Luxury Cirrus SR22 Discovery Flight is $499 for 60 minutes, $649 for 90 minutes and $799 for two hours for one flyer, or $599, $849 and $1,049 with a passenger, with limits of 200 pounds per person and 400 pounds combined. You fly from the left seat with an instructor, and a passenger can ride along.

Why Does Turbocharging Change How You Fly It?

Because the engine holds manifold pressure with altitude instead of losing it. The airplane will climb to where oxygen and weather planning become real considerations, so power management and cooling are a substantial part of the ground training.

How Far Ahead Should I Book It?

Early. There is one Cirrus and it is shared between endorsement training, private pilot training and discovery flights, so weekend and golden-hour slots go first. Call (818) 330-1318 and ask for N422SN.
