You Fly LA does not accept the GI Bill. Veterans who train with us at Van Nuys Airport pay the same way as every other student: a package paid as $2,500 down and fixed monthly payments, interest free, or a flight training loan. This page sets out the prices, the payment plans and the scholarships that veterans compete well for.
Our main page on financing flight training covers the payment plans and loan options in full, and our flight school loans guide compares the lenders students most often ask us about.

How Veterans Pay For Training Here
Start With The Private Pilot Certificate

The payment plan is $2,500 down and four monthly payments of $1,975, interest free. The full breakdown, including what happens if you need more hours, is on our private pilot license course page.

Get Your FAA Medical Early
Schedule your FAA medical exam early. If there is anything in your service medical record that might complicate an FAA medical — and for a lot of veterans there is — find that out before you spend money on training. This is the single most common way a veteran's flying plan goes wrong, and it is entirely avoidable. Our guide to FAA medical certificates and AMEs in Los Angeles explains which class you need and when.
What Part 61 Training Gives A Veteran

There is a reason plenty of veterans train under Part 61. Part 141 approved syllabi are rigid by design: stage checks happen on schedule, the sequence is fixed, and deviating costs you the approval. Part 61 lets an instructor teach in the order that suits you, credit the experience you already have, and compress the schedule when you have a clear week. Veterans transitioning out of service often have exactly that pattern — long blocks of availability followed by none — and it suits accelerated training well. Our accelerated flight training page explains how the compressed schedule works at Van Nuys.
The second advantage is the fixed price. Our package prices are the number, with books and materials included, and they do not change because you needed an extra lesson in the pattern.
Aviation Scholarships Aimed At Veterans
Several national organizations run scholarships that veterans compete well for, and they do not care whether the school is Part 61 or Part 141. They are competitive and they are not a substitute for a funding plan, but they are free to apply for. We keep a list of the bodies worth watching, what they fund and roughly when they open on our aviation scholarships page. Apply to several, write the essay properly, and treat any award as a reduction in your plan rather than the plan itself.
