A You Fly LA gift certificate lets them choose their own date and their own airplane, which is the version of this gift that actually gets used. It never expires on a weather cancellation.

See All Courses →You can book everything on this site in a couple of minutes, and for most people that is the right way to do it. But a number of things are genuinely faster and better on the phone, and we would rather you called than guessed.
Sunset slots and weekend mornings go first, and a particular aircraft is far easier to hold with a phone call than a click.
One quick check: 180 lb per person and 360 lb combined in the Piper Warrior, 200 lb and 400 lb combined in the Cirrus SR22 (Cirrus SR series reference), no limit at all in the simulator. If you are close, ring us before you pay and we will find the flight that works. We would far rather have that conversation on the phone than turn somebody away at the door.
There are moving parts — timing, who flies, who waits on the ground, whether anyone is being surprised. See Groups, Proposals And Events and then call.
Tell us on the phone and we will tell you honestly whether an airplane or the simulator is the better first hour.
There is no minimum age for a lesson, but the person flying needs to see over the panel and wear a headset comfortably. We will tell you whether it is worth doing now or worth waiting a year.
If you only have one afternoon in Los Angeles, call and we will tell you what the odds actually look like for that week.
We are at 7900 Balboa Blvd, Main Terminal Unit 108, Van Nuys, CA 91406, on the western side of Van Nuys Airport. The map below is our Google Business Profile listing — tap it for turn-by-turn directions from wherever you are.
The field has several public gates spread over a mile of frontage, and we are at Main Terminal Unit 108. The wrong gate usually means a locked fence and a fifteen-minute detour, which is a poor way to start a flight you have been looking forward to. If you cannot find us when you arrive, call (818) 330-1318 and somebody will talk you in.
Take the Sherman Way exit and head west about a mile and a half. Balboa is the major signaled intersection you cross.
Exit at Balboa Blvd and drive north past Victory and Vanowen. You will run alongside the airfield fence — the numbered driveways along it belong to different tenants.
Come south on Balboa, straight down the western boundary of the field.
The Metro G Line busway crosses Balboa at the south end of the airport, and Van Nuys Metrolink station is a short ride away. Rideshare works fine as long as you give the driver the street address rather than the airport name.
Give yourself more time than the map says between four and seven on a weekday. The Valley's traffic is real, and arriving flustered fifteen minutes late is the one thing that genuinely takes the edge off a first flight. If you are running behind, call from the road — depending on what is scheduled behind you we can often shift things around.
Come about fifteen minutes before your slot. Headsets are provided. The full sequence is on What To Expect On Your Discovery Flight.
01
Main Terminal, Unit 108, on the west side of the field. Park, come in, and tell whoever is at the desk who you are flying with.
02
Government photo identification — a driver's license, or a passport if you are visiting from outside the US. Closed-toe shoes for the ramp.
03
They will introduce themselves, ask what you are hoping to get out of the hour, and answer whatever you want to ask before anything else happens.
04
A briefing, a walk-around of the airplane, then the flight. Allow about two hours at the airport in total for a sixty-minute flight.
Leave a number and a rough idea of what you want to do. Somebody who actually flies here will ring you back — usually within the hour during opening hours, first thing the next morning if you write to us late.
A fair number of questions are already answered in writing, which is often quicker than waiting for an instructor to come off a flight.
Call (818) 330-1318. Free rescheduling up to 24 hours before, and if the weather says no, you do not pay. If you are inside 24 hours, call anyway — we would much rather have the conversation than have you not turn up. The full policy, including what happens when we stand a flight down for weather, is on our Weather And Cancellation Policy page.
Tell us directly, and tell us first. Call (818) 330-1318 between 9 AM and 9 PM any day of the week and give us the chance to put it right. Most problems are a misunderstanding and most misunderstandings take one conversation. We would genuinely rather fix something than argue about it.
180 lb per person and 360 lb combined in the Piper Warrior; 200 lb per person and 400 lb combined in the Cirrus SR22; no limit at all in the full-motion simulator. If you are close to a limit, call before you pay and we will find the flight that works.
There is no minimum age for a lesson — the person flying needs to see over the panel and wear a headset comfortably. You must be 17 to hold a Private or Sport Pilot certificate, but you can start training at any age, and our Teens Pilot Course is built for ages 10 to 15.
Not to fly with an instructor. You need an FAA Third-Class Medical before you fly solo toward a Private Pilot certificate, and a U.S. driver's license is enough for Sport Pilot. Ask us on the phone if you have a condition you are unsure about — we would rather tell you early.
Nine in the morning to nine at night, seven days a week. An instructor or the owner answers. The first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing — and we guarantee the lowest pricing in the LA area, so bring us a quote to beat.
